Start of Semester
Please answer each survey question in a few thoughtful sentences.
1. How do you envision using art in your classroom?
I envision art in my classroom as a way for students to express their creativity and use their imagination. I see it as a way to help students understand concepts especially in the core subjects such as social studies. I plan to use art in many of my projects. Nearly everything students do in an elementary classroom can involve art and I hope to have a classroom that integrates art in as many ways as possible!
2. What do you know about integrated learning / integration?
My knowledge of integrated learning is that it is a way of learning and understanding a concept through making connections from multiple subjects. For example, if you were teaching a lesson on the water cycle you could incorporate a project in which students draw/color a picture of the water cycle. It is an example of integrated learning because it involves both science and art. There are many ways to use art in integrated learning, especially in an elementary classroom.
3. Rate your comfort level in making art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
Art is definitely not my strongest area. I enjoy coloring and painting and am comfortable doing basic art. One area of art I struggle with is drawing (especially animals and people!) and coming up with creative art ideas. I hope that this art course will help me become more comfortable and confident with my art ability.
4. Rate your comfort level in analyzing and talking about art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
I am completely lost when it comes to analyzing and talking about art. I do not have a lot of knowledge about art and would not feel comfortable analyzing art in front of a classroom of students.

End Of Semester
Now that you have [almost] completed the course, please answer each survey question once more in a few thoughtful sentences.
1. How do you envision using art in your classroom?
I still envision art, in my future classroom, as a way for students to express themselves. I hope to integrate art in as many ways as possible, especially within writing and social studies. I believe that art projects and activities enhance student learning and allow them to apply their knowledge in a constructive way. I feel better prepared to use art in my classroom because of the resources and ideas I have gained throughout the semester.
2. What do you know about integrated learning / integration?
Integration is a way to incorporate art into other subjects and within other topics. Throughout the semester, we got to see ways of doing this and activities we can use in our future classrooms to integrate art. After spending time in my field classroom, I now understand the importance of integrating art to make a lesson more meaningful. I also now realize that integration is more than just drawing or painting a picture, it is about creating a deeper understanding of the topic being taught.
3. Rate your comfort level in making art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
While I am not 100% comfortable with my art making ability, I think that I have come along way from the start of the semester. Working on different studios throughout the semester and seeing my classmates work, made me realize that everyone is capable of making art and all art is beautiful in it's own way.
4. Rate your comfort level in analyzing and talking about art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
I now feel much more comfortable analyzing and talking about art than I did at the beginning of this course. I feel that I would now be capable of teaching a lesson to students that encompassed art. Learning how to VTS made me feel more comfortable because I have a way/structure to follow when analyzing and talking about art in the classroom. The more experience I get the more and more comfortable I will become.
